Reserve FAO News -- Dec 97

Army Reserve Personnel Command (AR-PERSCOM): On 16 October, the U.S. Army Reserve Personnel Center (ARPERCEN) in St. Louis became the U.S. Army Reserve Personnel Command (AR-PERSCOM). Coincident with the name change, the regional personnel management teams returned to branch specific personnel managers.

What does this mean for Reserve FAOs? Your manager is Major William P. Banks, Jr. He welcomes your calls, toll free, at (800) 325-4988 or by email to William.Banks@arpstl-emh2.army.mil. MAJ Banks also manages Reserve Military Intelligence officers. It is to your advantage to maintain regular and frequent contact with your PMO!

UPDATE - Downsizing the Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) Program: Many FAO positions were eliminated in the recent reduction from 9,000 to 6,000. The good news is two-fold. First, even if your position was eliminated, you can still train in that position during the current training year (FY 98). Drilling IMAs are still DIMAs and all IMAs are entitled to a 12 day CONUS Annual Training (up to 19 days OCONUS).

Second, the Individual Ready Reserve Augmentee program is expected to launch in January 1998. Reservists presently assigned to deleted IMA positions will be able to move to the new IRR Augmentee program. To a large extent, the change will be transparent to you. You ll get Annual Training in the new position. You'll be assigned to the IRR but attached for training, possibly to the same unit or agency you are with now. Two cautions: IRR Augmentees will not be eligible for drill status (no IRR Augmentee counterpart to DIMA). Soldiers voluntarily accepting an IRR Augmentee position are not eligible for Selected Reserve transition benefits.
