Defense Attache, Beirut, Lebanon, 1995 -- 1997
- Senior U.S. defense representative and principle military advisor to the Ambassador;
- Program manager for $114 million security assistance program to the Lebanese Armed
Forces;
- Significantly expanded the military-to-military relationship to include de-mining, mobile
training teams, medical reform, and joint exercises;
- Coordinated training opportunities for 200 Lebanese officers;
- Provided background information/guidance to U.S. companies seeking business with the
LAF;
- Lobbied Congressional staffers to protect the security assistance program;
- Assisted in policy formulation concerning security issues including: Hizballah and
hostilities in South Lebanon; airport security; threats to the embassy; and Syrian influence in
Lebanon;
- Supervised staff of 11.
Deputy Sector Commander, United Nations Observers in Iraq/Kuwait, 1993 -- 1994
- Directed efforts of 100 military observers of 70 nations patrolling border between Kuwait
and Iraq;
- Directed operations ensuring the safe demarcation of the Iraq-Kuwait border;
- Provided continuous surveillance of the border to ensure that no border violations
occurred;
- Rapidly intervened on numerous occasions involving displacement of Iraqi civilians to
prevent escalation or an international incident.
Work Experience -- U.S.
Operation & Plans Officer, Fort Carson, Colorado, 1989 -- 1993
- Principle director of operations for 450-man organization, direct supervisor of 50
personnel;
- Coordinated/implemented training programs to maintain organization's combat readiness;
- Planned and conducted operations in support of numerous unit deployments.
Executive Officer, Army's Office of Foreign Intelligence, the Pentagon, 1985 -- 1986
- Executive assistant and office manager for the Director of Foreign Intelligence;
- Ensured proper staff coordination on foreign intelligence issues within the Army staff;
- Coordinated/de-conflicted position papers for senior army leadership.
Middle East Analyst, Current Intelligence Branch, the Pentagon, 1983 -- 1985
- Risk analyst for senior Army leadership for events in the Persian Gulf and South Asia;
- Produced daily written reports on regional developments and impact on Washington
policy-makers;
- Briefed Secretary of the Army and Senior Army Leaders on trends/analysis in regional
developments.
