***UPDATED AGENDA BELOW***

As the United States begins to refocus and rebalance its Armed Forces, the importance of diplomatic and mutual security cooperation, as well as global intelligence coverage, is certain to grow.  To initiate a dialogue and inform our membership and supporters, The National Military Intelligence Association (NMIA) and the Foreign Area Officer Association (FAOA) are co-sponsoring a 2-day symposium on:

“Foreign Engagement and Global Coverage under the New Defense Strategy: FAOs, Security Cooperation, and the Defense Attaché System”

The schedule will feature senior-level speakers who will address issues from the perspective of the Departments of Defense and State, as well as the Military Services and COCOMs.  Representatives from the Joint Staff and National Security Staff are also tentatively scheduled at this time.   Other participants will include leaders and proponents responsible for policy, operations, and training of the Defense Intelligence Agency’s (DIA) Defense Attaché System, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, Joint-Service Foreign Area Officers, and Defense language-region-culture programs.  Among the topics to be addressed are current and future programs, plans, and policies for Attaché operations and DoD FAO programs; language and culture training and support to defense intelligence; the Human Terrain System; the evolving role for the Senior Defense Official/Defense Attaché (SDO/DATT) function; and the new Defense Clandestine Service (DCS).

The symposium will take place on 18-19 September 2012, at the TASC Heritage Conference Center in Chantilly, VA, and will be at the SECRET/NOFORN level.  Online registration, information on cost, sponsorship, and table displays, as well as security clearance guidance, can be found at NMIA’s website: http://www.nmia.org/?page=2012Fall or link at www.faoa.org
